GNOME Session and note about Vimperator

Hi, all! I thought this was an interesting coincidence: we talked a bit about Vim-style keybindings for the browser the other night, and Pentadactyl, Vimperator, and Vimium were mentioned by name. Well, with the release of Debian 8.3 today, Vimperator has been removed as a package because it has not been maintained to be compatible with newer Iceweasel versions as packaged in Debian. Also, I had a question. When one uses the hibernate feature of GNOME (or the suspend feature, and while the session is suspended in memory the computer runs out of battery and loses power, as in my case), the session must be stored somewhere, and I presume in a file. Where would this be? When I turn on my laptop, it gets to the point where GNOME loads (but not the desktop [Nautilus] yet), and then freezes, even when I hard-shutdown by holding the power button and try again; the reason I think it might be a session-related issue is that I notice on a new session, the cursor starts in the middle of the screen, whereas every time I start it up, the cursor (in the 'waiting dial' shape) is in the same place near the lower right corner. So I think the session may be corrupt, and if I delete a 'session file' that might exist, perhaps it would reset and force GNOME to start a fresh session? Please help clarify this and tell me if what little understanding I have is totally off. Many thanks, -Arlo James Barnes

NMGLUGers, I came across an old install disk. Not one I had ever used, but it was time to replace the AOL disk I was using(the back side) as a clock face. This one is more visually interesting than the unmarked disk reverse side. Thank you, Ted P.

another try android rooting

Hi, I had been recommended to ask this list for advice. but perhaps i didn't explain it properly. I have android phone (flashed not rooted, samsung mega) and an android tablet (rca) I would like to know IF anyone is familiar with rooting these so i can get google out of my phones, and use another 'market' for my apps. I've used a fabulous market once on a unlocked phone from china but it was gsm and would not work where i live in the sticks so i had to go back to cdma network. IS there anyone out there who has the knowhow to do this for me and if so could you contact me directly? Of course, i'm not asking this to be done for free. if that is allowed that be great. I live 45 min from town so im never there in the evenings but i would bring it to town if someone could help me 'lobodomize' them. NMGLUGers, I plan to get to the meeting on the 10th. I don't have any issues myself, but there may be a question about converting a tablet to Linux from Android. Not my stuff, I still don't think a tablet worth the investment, as I have a netbook. I did see the DRM-Free selection list from the Free Software Foundation. I am not too likely to buy hardware just now anyway. I did find a site: Libiquity dot com, which offers almost fully free hardware. The limit is in some part of the hardware drivers or limits. Really odd that the proprietary "holdup" seems insurmountable. See you Thursday. Ted P.

NMGLugers, Youtube dot com does have an instructional video on the external drive we saw at the last meeting. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_Rt4J9CKYo) The method was direct and simple. Tool suggested is a credit card type shim to lift apart the pieces without damage. The process begins at the logo on the center strip piece of the case. The process doesn't look too hard. need to borrow old laptops for course this weekend

Dear nmglugers, I am teaching another of my courses this weekend: https://sites.google.com/site/santafecoding/ and I have had a lot of sign-ups from families who do not have an old laptop to give their kids. My stash of loaners will not be enough. Does anyone have any old laptops they could lend me for the weekend? The kids would install a new gnu/linux distro on it and use it Saturday and Sunday. I will come by Warehouse 21 this evening at some point.
