"serious programming for kids" course this weekend -- looking for laptops

Dear nmglugers, Does anyone have an old laptop which you don't use anymore? I'm teaching my course again this weekend and I'm low on loaners for low-income students. The 1gig laptops are not usable anymore. So if you know of a laptop that will never be used again and want to contribute it, that would help. These days I need at least 2gig of RAM, though 4gig is better.

venue for today

So Violet Crown, the venue we tried last time, didn't turn out to be viable. The wifi sucked and it was very noisy. For today, let's try the New Baking Company. Their wifi is OK and there's plenty of room. The only downside is that under their winter hours, they close at 7pm. So let's try to start early, say 6pm. Thanks, Geoff Chesshire

Weirdness

Hi All So I was at Standing Rock and besides getting brutalized, arrested and charged with a felony, I believe my devices were hacked. I don't know if anyone remembers that I couldn't connect to google for a long, long time until I found a weird entry in an obscure file. I deleted the entry and google came back. My lap top has named itself someone else besides me on 2 occasions when linking via bluetooth to my phone. I had a facebook acct., still do, that changed its name from "brianokeefe" to "brian.okeefe.379". I opened a new acct., "okeefecybermesa" and all is well there. When I try to change settings on the weirdly named one I can't and only the settings for my newer acct. show up. Thing is I have pix, etc. on the weird acct. that I wanted to keep but now....? It turned out to be known that the FBI and TigerSwan hacked almost all of us and I used my cell as a hotspot quite a bit along with thousands of others. Is there anyone who has the know-how to clean all of this up? Find the little cyber crappers, etc. and smoke 'em? Oh the stories I could tell...... Thanx!! --

replacing FireOS

The result of installing was to completely brick the Fire7 (fortunately amazon takes returns). I see that as of January 30 2018 there is a Fire7 release for the 2015 edition - might have the same issue, or it might be solved.
