NMGLUGers, I have posted a short account of out Sept. 15th meet up on the NMGLUG website <https://nmglug.org/latest-news/>. We were in person at Violet Crown in the Railyard. It was a good start. Is there interest in repeating the in-person event this week? I have not changed to meeting announcement on the webpage, but we might consider that. Due to my personal health issues I may not attend this week's meeting. Can you attend and how shall we post the information about meeting? I am guessing there is some interest in the meet-up. A Real Meeting on Sept 15th?

NMGLugers, Mark and I discussed at the the last virtual meeting the potential to have a face to face meet up at Violet Crown on Thursday Sept. 15th at 5:30 p.m. The location is convenient for Mark and is a public eatery with enough seating for a group to gather. I have not been there for several years, but in the past I did meet a group there at about this hour. And it was a good enough space for a group. Perhaps people could respond to this thread to give us all an idea of whether some are ready to start up in person again. Thank you, Ted P.

New Linux Computer Day; see folks tomorrow

Hi all, The ThinkPad x280 I’d ordered came in earlier this week. It came pre-installed with Windows 10, and made it quite clear to me that it’s unapproved for Windows 11 and installing Windows 11 just isn’t going to happen (Microsoft’s ploy to appease shareholders by attempting to continue the COVID-era uptick of PC sales by making everyone’s hardware obsolete). So perhaps we will see an uptick of Linux installs come 2025 when Windows 10 goes EOL. I’ll make a bold statement and say that I’m one of the few people who actually like Windows 10, so the whole Windows 11 nonsense is still a bit annoying to me, silver lining and all. I’m attempting to clone my Xubuntu install off my old ThinkPad x131e via CloneZilla. We’ll see how that goes. The ThinkPad x131e was the Windows version of one of the earlier generations of Chromebooks. Unlike later generations, it has a Real Proper SATA SSD and Intel core processor instead of the eMMC/Celeron combo that’s become common now. It’s still slow, though. See you all tomorrow! -Art

NMGLugers, We are schedule to meet today at the virtual spot see https://nmglug.org/ and the Meetings page. Time is 1730 MDT to 1900. We can see if there is enough of a topic to keep going for the full time. I have updated the "Latest" page with a post. I no longer have a laptop computer, having donated one running Linux Mint to a local charity for distribution to someone in need. I chose Mint because it was easier to add languages and I loaded several Spanish sets as New Mexico is almost bilingual. Mint 21 is available, but in broken iso's. I have loaded a usb and play with it, but it is not ready for sharing out just yet. I did upgrade a user to Mint 20.3 and it was smooth enough with the built-in tools. For usability and absence of issues I am more inclined to Mint over Ubuntu for others. At home I am Debian and Xfce, my preferences which are a matter of taste. For anyone with a little skill Debian is the way to go. But for entertainment options I was intrigued by the selections in Hypnotix, a web media streamer in Mint.
