Speaking of dreamhost, they have wonderfully implemented lets encrypt!! As usual with dreamhost, its seamless and trivial to use. For those running their own web servers, the lets encrypt folks have made the process almost too easy (for debian users). https://letsencrypt.org/howitworks/ ./letsencrypt-auto --apache On debian, this will verify your domain, issue a cert, install it on your server and enable it using /etc/apache2/sites-enabled Now, lets encrypt everything! Greetings; Gotten as far as downloading live-usb-install-2.5.8-all.deb from canon web site. anyone have any idea on how to proceed from that place,have not had a printer for a few years, but feeling irrationally optimist today.Does anyone in the club use printers or have any idea on how to install them,If the reply to this query is silence,then, would anyone like to start a club on how to install printers you? signed your good buddy from taos,peace in the world. anthony the printer a canon mx450 computer 32 bit ubuntu installed.

meeting tonight;

NMGLugers, I will miss the meeting tonight, don't want to stretch my day today. However, I have marked March 28th as a day-long install fest for the Coding Camp. I think I can be there and help Mark with that part of the event he is running. I am working with a few others on their Linux issues, even working on the mail merge to labels function in LibreOffice. No crucial issues for me at the moment - so I will wait till the next meeting on the 31st. Have a good meeting and some fun. Thank you, Ted P.

A website proposal

Remember 13 years ago when the NMGLUG helped me build a GNU/Linux server and set up a web site of the New Mexico Solar Energy Association? That server is still up and running, with the same Debian installation. It has had a few hardware failures and upgrades and a few dist-upgrades but it is still running. The organization is looking at changing the web site and this is the proposal that is being pushed. Does this seem reasonable? Mars ------------- The proposal: ------------- Website Objectives: Generate new clients/collaborators/followers Increase engagement of existing clients/collaborators/followers Promote awareness of events, content and participation Increase readability and understanding of content Simplify the design/layout of the website Increase ease of use for future editing Audience Solar energy enthusiasts, scientists, engineers, inventors, entrepreneurs, educators, and fellow students and peers. Strategy Convert to Squarespace.com for design purposes and for easy editing in the future. Condense and simplify current information for readability purposes. Increase access across computers and mobile devices for a broader audience by increasing mobile optimization. Train a team to understand how to make future edits. Looks like I'm moving... selling stuff..first to go is OLD PCs

All, I'm not going to elaborate, but the move I'm thinking of is a big move, and I need to start selling stuff. First, are a few old PCs that should be complete and work (as far as I remember), they're all about the same vintage, and whatever you think you want for it, you can buy them. I haven't turned any of these on (but did work when I shut them down) some.. year and a half ago, 2 years? Not that I'm going to name every spec, but they are all about... Pentium 4 era slowest is a AMD Duron 850MHz, newest somewhere in the 2GHz range. I'd be surprised if any of them are over 512MB RAM EIDE drivesMix of motherboard types, Full ATX, mATX, mix of cases, midtower, full tower, and one "mobile" (think: LAN parties)None have a Windows COA, they're all custom builts.Hard drive sizes are probably at most 10GBSome have DVD, some have CD, and I've got antique CD ROMs I can bring too. They're not speed demons, but they would work in anybody's closet or tinker box. I also have 1 19" CRT, and 2 17" CRT monitors. All this needs to go. It's going to e-waste if I don't get rid of them. I'll do my best to make it with advanced notice to a GLUG soon, but I will have to rework some other day stuff to do that. I do have an old gaming rig I'm trying to sell too, 4 years old. Specs tomorrow (already made one up, but it's at work). Due to this being a moving sale, I may have more household items, like couches, tables, beds, dressers, etc etc etc - later. much later. If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door. "I can" is a way of life. More and Bigger is not always Better. The road to success is always uphill. Life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself.

laptops wanted - new "programming for kids" course coming up

I will be teaching another few rounds of programming courses for kids this year, the first during spring break (March 28-April 1). Info and flyer are at: https://sites.google.com/site/santafecoding/ If anyone has an old laptop they are discarding, I use these for students who cannot find an old one of their own. They will immediately learn to install and then use (and program) a GNU/Linux distribution. This computer could be up to about 7 years old, anything that will run xubuntu 12.04 (as a figure of merit) would do. If you truly don't need one such laptop, let me know!
