Howdy all, I bought a on-sale laptop. It's an: ASUS VivoBook 15.6" FHD Laptop, Quad-Core Ryzen 5 2500U Processor (up to 3.6 GHz) with Radeon Vega 8 Graphics, 8 GB DDR4, 256 GB M.2 SSD, 802.11ac Wi-Fi - F505ZA-DH51. It's a race car for me at least. I downloaded Ubunu 19.04 and made a bootable USB drive and installed. Boy is it good looking! I can't wait to get all of my data migrated but I am. As you see the SSD is not so large as the 1TB I have on my old ACER. I thought that I was using about 45% disk space and was not, of course, worried because the drive is so large capacity. I never finished migrating all of my data from my previous and hosed 500GBSSD that Mark helped, or actually did, save so I have some scattered data on the ACER and on the 500SSD. In prepping to start moving stuff around I used the GUI Disk Analyzer and very much to my surprise I found files of up to 49GB!! I have 5 or 6 WINE programs I run and that shows up as a 39GB folder. Now that makes no sense at all, as is the case with several other folders. I have a folder for my activism stuff and that's 29GB which is outlandishly wrong. So the Disk analyzer is wrong or somehow these folders have been growing on their own, bloating like a president's ego. My Q is, what console tool would give me the disk usage in a tree-like format (I know not like a GUI but a list from highest to lowest size of folders). Is this possible? It appears that if the GUI Disk Analyzer is correct then I can lose a few items, like the wine programs, VMs and other unnecessaries and have plenty of space on the new drive. I had planned to use the 1TB drive as a storage device for my 10,000+ photos, etc. This would work but I don't trust the GUI and don't want to start some weird event and lose data nor do I want to transfer mostly useless data that is actually a couple Gigs and not the tens of GB I am seeing. I'll check out the forums for a console command but i thought I'd go to the best first. Cheers Brian --

[ABQLUG] Meetup 002 Postmortem (August 2019)

Fellow NMGLUGers, The ABQLUG meetup was set up a week early to accommodate an upcoming vacation I am going on. As a result, the next meetup will be on September 3rd. Not a whole lot happened at this meetup. I installed EndeavourOS on a old laptop. A member had some issues with XFCE and with Baloo (file indexer). Both of those issues should have been resolved. Another member brought up the fact that I hadn't set up a chat server yet. So we decided that it might be best, for now, to set up a channel on the NMDevs Slack network. Later on I plan on integrating that channel with the Synapse/Matrix server. Hi NMGLUGers, The next ABQLUG meetup was /originally/ scheduled towards the beginning of August. However, that will conflict with an up coming vacation I have planned... So I am going to host the monthly ABQLUG meetup a week early. There will be no ABQLUG meetup in August 2019 as a result. The subsequent meetup will be on September 3rd 2019. New meetup date (one-time): July 30th, 2019 at 6:00 pm, this will be at Ideas & Coffee again. Hi Brian, If you are able to get to a x session (GUI) I would adjust grub with grub-customizer. You can do this from command line, however, it would mean adjusting /etc/grub.d files. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer ; sudo apt update ; sudo apt install grub-customizer ; grub-customizer https://www.fosslinux.com/4300/how-to-edit-grub-bootloader-and-remove-unwan… However, I would probably would just tell grub to not display the menu. As long as you're going to manually enter the GRUB_DEFAULT option in /etc/default/grub I also forgot to tell you to run update-grub after you edit /etc/default/grub So this is what you should do. sudo cp -p -v /etc/default/grub /etc/default/grub.bak sudo nano /etc/default/grub (Change GRUB_DEFAULT=0 to GRUB_DEFAULT="Ubuntu, with Linux 4.15.0-48 generic" ) (Make sure you include the double quotes, "") (Also add this any where in the same file, just make sure it has it's own line to itself, GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true ) (Ctrl + O then Ctrl + X to save and exit) sudo update-grub sudo systemctl reboot That should force that particular kernel to load on it's own, without a grub menu at boot time. Crash reports

NMGLugers, meeting tonight. I have a couple crash reports to parse. Probably from oddball usb sticks from an old camera. Note, these sticks have unique physical and perhaps format characteristics. Found out how to delete the reports. That was the key to this episode. See you tonight. Ted P.

[ABQLUG] June 2019 (Wine) Meetup - Postmortem Write-up

Hello fellow NMGLUGers, Thanks to everyone that attended the latest ABQLUG meetup. I demonstrated what Wine could do in 2019. I "installed" two Windows applications with Wine, Ancestral Quest 15 and Quicken 2016. Two pieces of software that an ABQLUG member was struggling with. However, Quicken 2016 wasn't working for me, until I used CrossOver... When I demonstrated this during the meetup I went a little /too/ fast. So I am hoping that this /little/ write-up will help guide anyone that is trying to play around with Wine.
