Epson printer driver and implications, LSB, OS

Hi NMGLUG folks, I'm trying to get my Epson WF-3640 printer to print from my Debian 10 laptop. I have not found a driver specifically for this. I did find a generic driver named epson-escpr for many epson printers from https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Epson/Epson-WF-3640_Series Here's info about my 64-bit OS: ll@leno:~$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Debian Description: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Release: 10 Codename: buster I selected the file for x86 64 bit and 1.4.1 (DEB for LSB 3.2). I clicked on it and selected the option to open with GDebi Package Installer. I got an error that Dependency is not satisfiable: lsb (>= 3.2) I heard that debian no longer allows LSB. I don't really understand the relationship. It might be that debian has removed or relocated some functionality related to LSB. It seems like this is the issue preventing me from getting this printer to work for me. What to do? Implications... I've heard that there are some work-arounds possible, but that might create problems. I found a forum post suggesting that debian 11 might work with some driver for this printer. It makes sense for me to upgrade soon to debian 11. I've heard that, if connectivity to printers and other apps is important to me, I might try Ubuntu. One idea is to use a different OS on a different laptop. Another idea is to use a VM for printing. I already have Win10 in a VM. I could put Ubuntu into a VM. I welcome your thoughts. Mistake while emptying trash -- help

Hi NMGLUG folks, I made a mistake. Here's what I did: ll@leno:~/.local/share/Trash$ ls files info ll@leno:~/.local/share/Trash$ rm -rf * ll@leno:~/.local/share/Trash$ ls ll@leno:~/.local/share/Trash$ mkdir files ll@leno:~/.local/share/Trash$ mkdir info ll@leno:~/.local/share/Trash$ ls files info ll@leno:~/.local/share/Trash$ After I removed files from the Trash dir, I realized that I should have changed to the files dir and removed files in there. Unfortunately, I lost whatever was in the info dir. Also, I recreated the files and info folders, but they are probably not the same now as they were before. I'm not sure what is different, maybe folder attributes or other stuff. Now, when I delete a file, I don't see it in the files dir. What should I do? Please help. Meeting Oct. 14 notes;

NMGLUGers, We had a nice and lively meeting last night. We did not go into the scraping and other web issues/apps. We did, well some of did, have an in depth discussion of programming languages and styles. Also shell preferences to some extent. It was wide-ranging and covered a little nostalgia for the early conditions of programming in the 70's-80's. Some discussion of C and C++ and the problems of writing and compiling in a neat and orderly fashion - and the growth in size of programs due to the environmental limitations, hence Meson/mesonbuild, python, rust, GIT and DVC were discussed. We did range around a bit. Then shells, with support even for the powershell, not a Gnu/Linux item that. However, Bash, zsh, csh, tcsh and a few others were mentioned. As always there is the Emacs environment in which to code and do other work. A particular point was made that a shell script is a good thing, but not a substitute for using an appropriate coding language when getting into more detail. This is not a transcript of the meeting by any means. We did decide to postpone the scraping until all those who expressed an interest are present. Thank you, Ted P, Santa Fe

Mini-tutorial, Web Scraping with BeautifulSoup, tonight

A couple meetings ago, we talked about web scraping, and I offered to give a tutorial on how to scrape with the Python module BeautifulSoup. There was also interest in selenium, which I hadn't used at the time, but now I have so I could talk about that a little. Unfortunately it turns out I have another commitment tonight at 7. So what I'll do is try not to be late to the meeting at 5:30, and for half an hour I can give an introduction to HTML, the DOM and how to do simple scraping with BeautifulSoup. Then at the next meeting on Oct 28, if anyone has any questions about BeautifulSoup I can continue with that, and then if people are still interested in selenium, I can talk about that and about how you can use the two packages together. ...Akkana

GIMP or scraping tutorial?

The GIMP tutorial at the last meeting was fun. I've had a request for a followup tutorial on GIMP's layer masks, or on a completely different note, on web scraping. Selenium was mentioned; I've never used Selenium myself, but if anybody else can do a Selenium tutorial I'd be interested in attending. I do a lot of web scraping with Python and BeautifulSoup, and could give some demos of that. Unfortunately I have to miss this Thursday's meeting (and in any case, my internet's been out for a week and I have no confidence CenturyLink is going to have it fixed by Thursday), but I could present either GIMP layer masks or BeautifulSoup scraping at the Sep 30 meeting, if people are interested. ...Akkana

LTE 5G modems suggestions.

Does anyone have suggestions on a linux friendly lte / 5G modem? Not a hot spot but a USB direct connection and a cheap service? I bought the 4G LTE generic from Walmart (link below) and Linux sees it fine but all the providers I have tried say the unit is not compatible with their service.
