NMBKA 2025 Winter Conference! (and Membership Drive) The 2025 NMBKA Virtual Winter Conference is approaching! However you do need to make sure your 2025 dues ($30) have been paid*. The conference will run from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. Schedule of Presentations Time: 10am – 11am Speaker: Melanie R. Kazenel, Ph.D Title: The Effects of Climate Change on Bee Populations Time: 11am – 12pm Speaker: Kaira Wagoner, Ph.D Title: The Biology of Honey Bee Hygiene - Selecting for Pest and Disease Resistance Time: 12:00pm – 12:10pm BREAK Time: 12:10 – 1:10pm Speaker: Dr. Zachary S. The entire conference will be recorded and available to all paid NMBKA members in the weeks following the event, so even if you are unavailable to attend on February 7, please make sure to update your membership for 2025! * If you paid your NMBKA membership between September 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024, you are paid up for all of 2025.

Greetings, Our last SDC Beekeepers meeting of the year will be held Thursday 9/26/24, starting at 6:30 PM……reminder that we now meet at our NEW LOCATION: St John’s United Methodist Church located at 1200 Old Pecos Trail here in Santa Fe. As is our tradition, we will be having a honey tasting so please bring a sample of your 2024 harvest to share with the group. Among other information, we will share how to prepare your own Extended Release Oxalic Acid sponges for mite treatment. Honey Harvest

This morning I went into my top bar hives to treat for mites with strips. As I got into the hive, I found that there was a good supply of honey (approximately 5 top bar frames). In addition, with the wet monsoons this year, the bees are still harvesting Russian sage, Spirea, and now rabbitbrush. II last harvested a little honey,, two frames, in early August. I am thinking of harvesting some more honey around October 1. Is that to late here in Santa Fe? Thanks, Hugh
