Greetings SDC Beekeepers, The April monthly SDC Beekeepers meeting will be held starting at 6:30 PM on April 27th at the Unitarian Universalist Church located at 107 W. Barcelona Rd, Santa Fe, in the library. We plan to discuss: • Catching Swarms (yes, that’s right….swarm season is about to begin!) • Splitting you hive(s) (how to know when and how to split) ….and yes, once again, we will be offering free smoker fuel to all who attend. ….and of course, Kate will be here to answer any and all questions While we are hoping everyone can join us in person, we have scheduled a Zoom meeting at the same time so that those that cannot make the trip can still participate. Dear Beekeeping Community Leaders, I'm reaching out on behalf of Bee Informed Partnership to ask for your help with the Loss and Management Survey. We are in need of more beekeeper responses to the survey and we'd like to ask you to share this information with your community (including large and smaller scale beekeepers). Bee Informed Partnership serves the beekeeping industry as an unbiased third party that prioritizes the needs of beekeepers here in the US. BIP works directly with beekeepers of all operation size along with researchers to help answer some of the tough questions facing the industry. The Loss and Management Survey helps to facilitate that service and informs researchers, policy makers, and most importantly beekeepers across the country and beyond on issues relating to colony loss and how management practices may impact survival here in the US. Right now, we are in need of community support to gather the responses needed for this survey to do the most good. The Loss and Management Survey should take between 20-40 minutes and is an excellent way for every beekeeper to have a meaningful and positive impact on the industry! There is an online and printable pdf version, as well as a different version of survey for larger and smaller scale operations. thanks for all the replies. The honey was inside, next to my water heater (to warm it up) and still soo thick it would not drip through the filters. I am just east of St. Mike's HS. No mites. I did my preventative medicine in the fall. I tried to attach some pics but was denied. Might have been a second queen in the hive based on the appearance of the comb on the frames. Fwd: Abandoned hive and molasses like honey

Good afternoon. I opened my remaining hive today and everything looks great. Lots of activity and larvae. My second hive, however, decided to abandon ship between thanksgiving and Christmas. Not sure why, but they did. But the also left most of their honey. Very dark and thick, almost like molasses. Would someone explain why the honey is so thick and dark? Previous hives in the Middle East were not as thick or as dark. TIA.

Hive and 2 supers for sale

Hi Folks, After keeping bees for 12 years, I am moving on. I have a full 10 frame Langstroth hive available for sale. It includes the screened bottom board, one 10-frame deep, 2 10-frame mediums and two 10-frame supers, the inner cover and top cover. All frames are either foundationless with a wedge for the bees to build off of or with black plastic foundation. This is used equipment but in good condition. The main hive boxes are 3 years old, the supers are two years old. Please let me know if you’re interested in buying them. Thank you, Anna Sent from my iPhone
