another hardware exploration, and this weekend's installfest
Dear nmglugers, This evening I'll bring in a laptop that has a dead screen. It also only powers on when you hit the "dvd play" special key... Anyone wanna take a screwdriver to it? And on Saturday morning at 9am I will teach my "serious programming for kids" course. I have space for another kid (age 13-18) if you know anyone. Does anyone feel like hanging out Warehouse 21 for the very start to help getting the installs going? This should be an easier group than past ones: somewhat smaller group of somewhat older kids.
Mark, Sure, I'm interested and will bring a screw driver. Yes, I can be there for the morning to get a start on installs and handle any that turn into tricky bits. Thank you, Ted P. On 6/9/16, Mark Galassi <mark@galassi.org> wrote:

Mark & fellow nmglugers, I regret to say that I will not be available this weekend, which is unfortunate, given how much fun I had at the last one. Work also has me too busy to visit the GLUG tonight. :-( You'll have to fill me in on the "dvd-play-special-key-as-on-button" situation next time. Sounds like a real challenge.... -kr On 06/09/2016 10:05 AM, Mark Galassi wrote:

KR, It was a no go. We gave up. the older HP did not start up, only kept trying the media mode looking for a cd to play. Only 512 of ram, no look at bios or anything on the screen. Mark will use a different machine for this student. I let him know that you will miss this session of his class. Thank you, Ted P.
