I apologize for this being a non gnulinux problem but I don't know what else to do. My Roku is not working. The device starts but I cannot connect to any app. Checking setting shows my network is fine but no download speed, 0. I cannot connect to any roku website on my laptop or phone. I cannot contact customer support. It's as if my modem is choking on all roku. Since I can't get any web help I thought that I'd throw this out there and hope. I really appreciate any help. Thanks Brian --
I checked w/ Cybermesa who said that there are strange routing problems happening. Changed the DNS server to google's and that solved the issue. Why the other server would suddenly cause all Roku to be unavailable is strange. Thanks, Brian On 9/2/20 8:45 AM, Brian O'Keefe wrote:

Being this is a LUG, might I suggest running your own resolver? Then, you get to use 127.0.0.1 On Wed, Sep 02, 2020 at 12:05:56PM -0600, Paul wrote:

Sure, but you're still going to need to use an upstream DNS provider. On Wed, Sep 2, 2020 at 12:34 PM John Osmon <josmon@rigozsaurus.com> wrote:

No you don't. You just need Internet access and an updated hints file so you can find the root servers. One of the purposes of the DNS is to be self-sufficient.
Might be a good excuse to try out Pi hole or Adguard on a Raspberry Pi. Though that still relies on an upstream DNS host. Which is probably for the best. ~ Jared On Sep 2 2020 2:46 PM, John Osmon wrote:

Yes but because the pi hole is a customizable dnsmasq, you can setup dnscrypt, dns over https and more than two+1 terrestrial upstream DNS servers. On Wed, Sep 2, 2020 at 2:59 PM ABQLUG <community@abqlug.com> wrote:

You're absolutely right. I was thinking of a solution like a Pi-hole. You could run your own without an upstream provider and just ne keep the hints file updated. Now I kinda want to do that. On Wed, Sep 2, 2020 at 2:46 PM John Osmon <josmon@rigozsaurus.com> wrote:

I want you to also! If you run into problems, I'm happy to help. We need more people conversant with DNS!
The abqlug is doing a pihole event later this month and is giving away five rpi3 kits. Might be interesting to all. On Wed, Sep 2, 2020 at 6:16 PM John Osmon <josmon@rigozsaurus.com> wrote:
