NMGLugers, Sorry about a blank message just sent in error. Hope the reviewer tossed it. I have an external power brick and pata/sata to usb set up that is not working. I think it is the power brick. I wonder if someone could bring a meter to test the 5v and 12v output. the harness is set up for the older 4-pin connectors with adapters for the sata drives. I was hoping to use this to salvage a dvd r/w from a desktop unit to use as an external drive with no housing. Several years ago this equipment worked with a pata/ide drive, but I no longer have those. Thank you, Ted P.
It did send the blank message out, although I am sure we could configure Mailman not to do that in the future if we wanted. I will ask my parents if I can borrow their multimeter to bring. I am trying to upgrade my mother's laptop from Wheezy to Jessie*, but I am having some problems because I forgot that the wireless card needs the proprietary B45 (B for Broadcom) firmware, which I have on my external harddrive, transferred to a USB thumb/flash/jump drive, and tried to get the installer to see, to no avail. I had made a netinstall CD, which got me a non-graphical base system (I do not remember how to mount drives, install firmware, connect to the wireless, and download additional packages when convenient commands like iwconfig [and sudo!] are missing). I then made a non-netinstall DVD triplet, which failed during installation for unknown-to-me optical drive read/write reasons. I will bring these discs and the laptop in tomorrow seeking installation help, so I just wanted to give this heads-up email for anyone who feels up to it. See y'all** then! -Arlo James Barnes *In preparation to upgrade my own laptop after, because I need to fiddle with a lot more user data. **Totality of readership not guaranteed.
Arlo, Thank you. We can probably get around most of your issues, but I wonder if you have ethernet access anywhere. That usually gives one access to the proprietary bits needed on an older machine and the updates. Some of the others may be able to tell you how to use your flash and locate the right directory to install the bits into. We can see what can be done. Nice to have a 'user space' project. Ted P.
Arlo, NMGLug again this week. Will you be coming and will you be able to pick up this monitor? Did you want to pick it up instead at my apartment at a totally different time? Let me know your thoughts. Thank you, Ted P.
