Check out the live webcast during the show at highmayhem.org/livestream High Mayhem Emerging Arts has been Santa Fe’s base for experimental and emerging arts since 2001, and host to emerging arts festivals since 2002. Our mission has always been to challenge the homogenizing effect of pop-culture groupthink by providing opportunities for and fostering collaborations with underrepresented “experimental” artists. This November will be the final year for our annual festival/series at the Siler Lane space, after which we will focus on going back underground with pirate video show broadcasts, a weekly radio show on SomaFM in the Bay Area (http://somafm.com/, which began Oct 9), pop-up shows at other locations, and continuing to operate as a record label and produce cutting edge albums (CDs and digital downloads). Celebrate the new transition for High Mayhem at the final Fall Series at the Siler Lane space, taking place Saturdays November 1, 8, 15, and 22. *November 1 <http://highmayhem.org/event-details/fall-series-night-1-ink-on-paper-acoustic-rhonda-taylor-bad-luck-mykel-boyd-mouth-breather/>* iNK oN pAPER <http://www.iopmusic.com/> iNK oN pAPER aCOUSTIC – is a drum, bass, and often electronics duo from Milton Villarrubia III (drums and laptop) and Carlos Santistevan (bass and electronics) who share 15 years of working together as a rhythm section in various projects. The Duo takes bass, drums and electronics to a new place. Both members often play hybridized versions of their instruments with Milton using Midi triggers on his drums to trigger and process samples using Ableton Live and Carlos using live looping and signal processing on his upright electric bass. For this set iNK oN pAPER will play an aCOUSTIC set with upright bass and drums. NO electronics/looping/triggers The result is a duo that is drags rhythm through the mud in unimaginably glorious ways. With three albums under their belt, Bad Luck has created an incredibly diverse array of music—-no small feat in the heavily trodden world of drum/saxophone duos. Their melodies, improvisations and compositions are constructed from the ground up and in many cases cannot be conventionally notated on a page. Bad Luck formed out of late night drum and saxophone marathon sessions exploring Coltrane/Rashid Ali style duos and jazz standards. It was after adding live pedals and electronic effects that the unique sound profile of Bad Luck began to take shape. They were named the “Outside Jazz Group of 2011” by Earshot Jazz Magazine, and their album Two was named ”Album of the Year 2012” by the New York Jazz Review. They are Table and Chairs Music recording artists with 3 albums to their credit: Bad Luck (2009), Two (2010) and the Bloodroot EP (2012). Welch and Icasiano are founding members of the famed Racer Sessions avant-garde performance series which takes place each week in Seattle. They are also founding members of the cutting-edge record label Table and Chairs Music, which operates as a not-for-profit record label that gives 100% of its proceed to artists. Bad Luck tours extensively, having shared the stage with local bands throughout the US as well as major figures in improvised music such as saxophone legend Roscoe Mitchell, and performers Cuong Vu, Andrew D’Angelo, Wayne Horvitz, Dave King (The Bad Plus) and Chris Speed. In the Fall of 2014, Bad Luck celebrates the release of their new album Three, bringing their high-energy live set to venues and universities across the U.S. on a 35 day tour.
