For 31 Jan, tweaking new Debian install on X240 and more?
Hi NMGLUG folks, I'm planning to be at the Baking Co on Thu. I'm still tweaking the new Debian install on my X240 to get it set up well to soon become my primary laptop for most tasks. I'm looking forward to help from anyone there in that process. I've discovered that I like the LXDE desktop environment GUI because it is minimalistic and highly customizable. I'm still customizing it. Another project I'd like to begin soon is a fresh install on my Samsung Netbook. Lots of gratitude to everyone who has helped me so far, especially Jason. LeRoy, to prep for you install on the Samsung netbook with the Atom processor, get a blank or erasable/expendable usb, 2GB or larger, and you can download the Lubuntu or Debian edition of your choice. Since the netbook came with a 32 bit system I would recommend the 32 bit release of the latest Lubuntu. This may avoid some of the hassles with non-free drivers in the netbook. Just a thought. Ted P. Hey Ted The "hassles" with drivers are trivial (enable non-free repo). LeRoy was having more problems with the gui differences between xfce in lubuntu vs the xfce in Debian. Hopefully a GUI nerd out there can come to the meeting and help him out? Perhaps you can help? Jason
Jason, I think LeRoy can do this instal himself. He is a capable 'gui nerd' himself. Time to get his own sub, pick a distro and do his own install. I think he can do it. Thanks, Ted On Mon, Jan 28, 2019, 8:57 PM jason schaefer <js@jasonschaefer.com> wrote:

It seems as if it's purely a matter of learning the various diffs in the GUI. I use several depending on the mood that I'm in though I pretty much stick to Gnome. Easy and familiar enough but XFCE works fine too. the install from disc or USB is a snap, as you point out Ted. Brian On 1/29/19 7:55 AM, Ted Pomeroy wrote:
