You have no hardware issues Anthony and can easily install Skype. It doesn't matter desktop or laptop so don't concern yourself with that at all. You will have to register a microsoft account and password for it since Micro owns Skype. Run the command in a terminal as the output you got stated. "sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386" then run "sudo apt-get update" (no ""s in the command though). Go to the download page and download the .deb, 64 bit. Install with gdebi (which should pop up by itself). Then you'll have to go through the registration. This is not difficult so just dive in. On 2/2/19 2:49 PM, a wrote:

I downloaded the 64 bit version a while back. It appears that Microsquish only offers a 64 bit version on their download page. They offer .deb and .rpm versions. You don't want the .rpm version. So there is no 32 bit version available.

A., Is there a 64 bit Skype download instead of 32? I have not looked in some time. You may have the wrong .deb package. You can add the 32-bit architecture as noted if there isn't a 64-bit .deb from Skype. Just a thought, Ted P.

A., Well, no. i_86 is 32 bit. I had a friend with a 32 bit laptop and she needed to scrounge up a newer 64 bit laptop. So you need an install of any Debian or Ubuntu, etc. edition that is current and 64 bit. A "Core2Duo" processor will work and newer, and several other chips of various names. The output of 'uname -a' should read somthing like: "4.9.0-8-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.130-2 (2018-10-27) x86_64 GNU/Linux". This is my machine running Debian on a 4.9.0-8-amd64 kernel, ie., 64 bit and compatible for the .deb from the Skype website. there is also the issue of allowing the Skype repository to update on your system. I don't have it installed on my machine, but my friend has a 64 bit edition of Ubuntu and she got Skype going. Good luck. Thank you, Ted P. If one wants Skype, and they have access to snap. I would install it that way. sudo snap install --classic skype Auto-updates, and all that jazz applies. https://snapcraft.io/skype -- Jared On 2/4/19 3:34 PM, Ted Pomeroy wrote:
