does someone have a computer in ABQ - loan for linux class this weekend
Dear ABQ and Santa Fe folk, I'm teaching one of my "serious computer programming for youth" courses this weekend, it will be online with Jitsi. The first thing we do is wipe an old laptop and install a GNU/Linux distribution. Then we program in Python for the weekend. One of my students lives in ABQ and does not have a laptop they can wipe, and I just found out now - too late to get someone to bring one down there. Does one of you have an old laptop (just needs 4gig of RAM) that you can let someone use for the weekend? Note that they will wipe the disk. They live on the west side (Ventano Ranch area), but are willing to drive anywhere in ABQ to pick it up. If so, could you please email me at mark@galassi.org or call me at 505-629-0759? Thank you! PS: the course is described at https://sites.google.com/view/serious-programming/
Not laptops but abqlug had several pi’s to give away. Case, power supply and all. You can chancel with Jared if any are still available. On Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 10:22 AM Mark Galassi <mark@galassi.org> wrote:

I've got a laptop. I can swap out the hard drive (if I can find a good one) and loan it to you. On Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 11:44 AM Wesley Robbins <wezzels@gmail.com> wrote:

Wesley, Don, thank you so much. Turns out that Ken responded and is in the right place for this, so today is taken care of. In general, of course, we can always use your discarded laptop. Anything in your garage gathering dust that has 4gig - we can use it to give to families that cannot afford a computer and want to take our python-on-linux courses.
At this point there is one more unclaimed Raspberry Pi 3. If there is anyone that can use it for a project, or is interested in tinkering with it (not just collecting dust), let me know. I'm at the North East Heights in Albuquerque, but you might be able to convince me to ship it somewhere if it's cheap enough. ~ Jared On Nov 6 2020 11:44 AM, Wesley Robbins wrote:

Daughter’s boyfriend I’ll would give it to him. I bought the raspberry pi for evil genius and they could use a pi. On Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 2:39 PM ABQLUG <community@abqlug.com> wrote:

NMGLugers, I have ordered a Pi400. Shipping date sometime later this month. It may be what I am looking for to use a good spare monitor, maybe not. I viewed a couple of the youtube videos and will have to see what I think when it is in hand. Whether I use the add-on port or not will be a test of my interest in experimentation. It may make me more involved in testing, but I am not sure. Thank you, Ted P. On Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 6:43 PM ABQLUG <community@abqlug.com> wrote:

Well, I cancelled the order. The GPIO is the real heart of the potential of the Pi and with my skill level and inquisitiveness decreasing I thought the device would be better in someone else's hands. Great potential for experimentation and exploration, but a bit beyond me. The HAT system and all would be great if I had desires to tinker and expand the form of a computer or explore, but my eyes and fingers are slowing down too much. The PiShop was very helpful, so do try one of these if you have the interest. Thank you , Ted P. On Fri, Nov 6, 2020 at 7:06 PM Ted Pomeroy <ted.pome@gmail.com> wrote:
