Joshua Smith is a leading saxophonist residing in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has performed with a long list of creative music's renowned voices such as Chris Jonas, Joe Maneri, Cuong Vu, Ben Glodberg, Karla Khislteadt, and many more. For the past two years he has been the saxophonist of The Scott Amendola Quartet, lead by the Bay Area's stalwart voice of drumming and improvisation, Scott Amendola... Joshua is no stranger to Santa Fe and it's musical community. He has performed with his own ensembles at several High Mayhem Festivals during the early part of the past decade. His band, 'birth' (featuring now local Santa Fe musician Jeremy Bleich on bass) performed several times in the area as well, as well as 'Amitosis' with Chris Jonas and 'The Cleveland Trio'... On Wednesday, September 19th, Smith returns to perform in Santa Fe, and will be joined by a potent selection of improvising musician friends from the Santa Fe area. The concert will begin with a set of acoustic Americana, performed on guitar and vocals by Smith and his wife Irena with their duo, 'The Old Way'. The second set with feature a lineup of several musicians performing with Joshua in various rotating combinations.The music will revolve around a few strategic improvisation and a reuniting of Smith and many of his New Mexican cohorts such as Chris Jonas, Al Fayette, Dave Wayne, Carlos Santistevan bass, Milton Villarubia, Jeremy Bleich, and more...
