Donation at the door
On November 5th, 2009, the acclaimed musician and former KUNM-FM deejay Zimbabwe Nkenya suffered a debilitating stroke. The stroke affected his ability to speak and write, and has caused temporary paralysis of his right side. Doctors at the Veteran's Hospital in St. Louis think Zimbabwe has a good chance of recovery, but it will mean several months of intense speech therapy and physical therapy. In the past few weeks, Zimbabwe's doctors have also discovered some other health issues which will require surgery to repair. His wife, Deborah Mashibini, has had to put her graduate studies on hold to help him through this incredibly difficult time.
The Outpost Performance Space and High Mayhem are holding benefit performances to raise funds to help assist Zimbabwe and Deborah. Proceeds from the High Mayhem benefit will go towards medical bills as well as towards a special instrument that can be played with one hand by Zimbabwe, giving him a new outlet to express and share his creative force.
